Today Malta commemorated Republic Day, the day the Maltese nation became a Republic within the Commonwealth of nations under the British crown.
To mark over 40 years since the event, a military parade was held in Republic Street with members of the Armed Forces of Malta joined by the AFM band, parading the presidential colours.
The troop of the colour is a tradition custom used as a visuals symbol to help rally soldiers during a battle.
The President had awarded the colours to the AFM in 2014.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat also paid tribute to Republic Day explaining that this year’s celebration would be marked by significant steps made towards the convention of the constitution.
