The Gozo University Group have said that other options must be explored other than the Malta-Gozo tunnel.
The declaration follows the public objection by its representative during a key meeting on Monday which had been organized by Wirt Għawdex.
GUG’s representative said that Gozitan students were actually against the building of the Malta-Gozo tunnel and instead they favoured a fast ferry service.
The news bears a stark contrast to their previous statements.
In a statement released today, GUG backed up their point saying latest developments had encouraged a change of heart.
‘A survey conducted last year showed us that many favoured the tunnel as it was the only idea of connectivity which was being thrown about. Nowadays, due to new information emerging, this is no longer the case. Thus, as the ideas of our fellow students change, so too must ours’
They state that the best way to improve connectivity was to introduce a new ferry.
‘The majority of Gozitan students who travel both weekly and daily to Malta are not in favour of the proposed tunnel project, in fear of what it might cause to the quite island we so proudly call home,’, GUG said.
